Aviation Development Council (ADC), a bridge organization between the region’s aviation industry, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, and the communities they serve, is proud to announce its partnership with the New York Pops in support of the New York Pops’ Pops Ed-Based Residency Program for Kids, a youth-oriented music education program for New York City school children.    ADC’s support of this important youth education program came as a result of a grant request from the New York Pops to the airline board members of ADC.  ADC’s board is comprised of airlines like JetBlue Airways, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Air Canada, as well as representatives from the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.

“Aviation Development Council has formulated a community outreach program which is focused on youth wellness, youth leadership development, and youth education.  This valuable music education initiative for youth will allow students from the P.S. 171, Queens (near LaGuardia Airport) attend in-school music education programming during the 2015-2016 school year.  This lesson-based, in-school residency program features 50-minute music lessons for over 19 weeks during the school year.  Approximately 200 primary school children receive music appreciation & choral lessons with a goal of culminating with a special presentation of their choral artistry at year-end in front of their parents, teachers, school staff, and their peers.  This $5,000 grant will provide music education funding for approximately 200 students from P.S. 171, Queens, a school which neighbors La Guardia Airport.

This program is essential in a time of budgetary crises and cutbacks in arts education. During these in-school lessons, the NY Pops educators discuss the kind of music to be learned & performed, take a simple approach to choral singing, apply voice techniques & fun preparation for singing & enjoying music.

The Port , Aviation Development Council and the New York Pops are extremely pleased with this partnership.  The New York Pops Pops Ed Lesson-Based Residency Program became a natural choice for our continued local outreach efforts,’’ states Bill Huisman, Executive Director of ADC.

The Aviation Development Council (ADC) is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to be a positive agent for the advancement of aviation in the New York metropolitan area by promoting a business-minded, community-friendly agenda for both the region’s aviation industry and the communities it serves.  ADC is funded by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the airlines that operate at four Port-Authority managed airports (LGA, JFK, EWR, TEB).

ADC will be celebrating its support of the New York Pops Pops Ed Lesson-Based Residency Program at P.S. 171, Astoria, Queens with a check presentation and media event on Friday, May 19th, at 10:15 a.m.  Those expected to be present for this occasion are: Kathryn Rudolph, Education & Office Assistant, New York Pops; Bill Huisman, Executive Director, ADC; and other esteemed guests.
